Birch Hardwood Flooring

If you are thinking about getting hardwood floors then you have probably heard of birch hardwood flooring. You may be wondering what the benefits are of this type of hardwood flooring, as well as what makes it different from the other types of hardwood flooring.

What does birch hardwood look like? Birch wood is a sapwood flooring. It has a color of pale white or a creamy yellow color if it is a yellow birch. If you get a heartwood birch ten it will be a brown reddish tinted would that is light in color with a reddish tinge to it.  The grain of this type of floor is a straight and closed grained wood with an even texture to it. In few cases you may find that the wood has some curly grain or even a wavy figure to it.

This is type of wood is moderately available for purchase. As far as how hard it is it is only 2% harder than the Northern red oak is. It is a hard and even stiff wood that is very strong or durable.  It is easy to cut with machine tools but you will find that it is very difficult if you are looking to cut this wood with a hand tool. There are no known problems with the finishing of birch wood. The sanding of this type of wood is considered satisfactory and the nailing ability is considered excellent.

You will also find that it has the same great characters as other hardwood flooring. It is generally easy to clean. You will need to make sure however that water and other liquids do not get left on the floor for long periods of time. This can cause any wood to warp and you don’t want this to that.  You also need to be sure that you avoid scratching the floor. Things like dirt and dragging furniture along the floor are certainly ways to get scratches in the floor. It is said that you should put down a rug by entrance ways to reduce the amount of dirt spread.

You may also want to consider that this type of flooring is great for health reasons. It helps to prevent the festering of germs because of the fact that there are no cracks or crevasses for them to get down into. It also is not capable of holding in dust and allergens. You will find that carpet is notorious for folding these things in and you can’t seem to get them out of the carpet no matter how much you vacuum. With the hardwood flooring you can simply sweep it up and then clean the floor with a hardwood floor cleaning solution.
