Hand Scraped Hardwood Flooring

By Henry

Hand scraped hardwood flooring is also known as distressed hardwood flooring. This is becoming more popular. Many people like this because of the worn look at it can add to the flooring. This is not to even mention the fact that it is a great way of making your home have an antique feel to it.

You may want to know a little bit about how this method of flooring started. One of the facts that seem to be the most interesting of all is that before people made use of electric sanders hardwood floors were made by this method of hand scraping. The scraping was used on the floors until they were flat. This method of hardwood floor scraping is continually increasing popularity today.  Hand scraped flooring have unique textured looks about them. This looks adds character and even a sense of past history to the floors that other types of hardwood flooring simply don’t have.

You can achieve this type of hardwood flooring by taking new flooring and then making the flooring like it has been aged. You can accomplish this by adding scratches or gouges to the floor once you have fully installed it into the home.

Hand scraping however is not the only method that is used for distressing flooring. There is another method that is used where a machine does the floor distressing. If you use hand distressing methods it will cost you a bit more than the ones that are distressed by the machine. You will find that this type of flooring is quite costly. However the look is well worth it. Hand distressing also makes every single piece of wood unique. The machine distressing can have pieces that look the same if you have a large enough area that the machine repeats the same pattern.

You will find that if you get the distressed wood that is already finished that you will incur a less expense over time. This is because the ones that are not prefinished need to be sanded and stained and sealed quite often.  This can cause the distressing marks to disappear. However, if you get the flooring that is prefinished instead of you having to hand rub the floor this type of floor does not need to be refinished. You can simply put a coat of sealer over the floor every so often. This means that the prefinished floors will actually keep its distressed look over time. Some of the distressed flooring that you can get can even come with warranties that last up to fifty years. This is because of the simple fact that hardwood flooring is so durable. It does not have the need of being replaced nearly as often as other methods do.

Being able to get hand scraped hardwood flooring for your home is a great way to add character to your home and your floors. This is a great type of hardwood flooring if you are looking to add some unique looking floors to your house.
