Laying Hardwood Flooring

By Henry

There are many things that you will need to do before laying hardwood flooring in your home or business. One of the first things that you will need to do is remove all the furniture and any other objects that you may have lying around in the area where you will be installing the floors. If someone is installing the floors for you then they may do this for you for an additional charge. Be sure that you don’t forget things like the closets or cabinets if they need to be emptied as well.

You also need to know that the room where the installation will take place needs to have a controlled climate. So you will need to run either the air or the heat depending on the outdoor weather to be sure that the temperature is supposed to be indoors. You should also be sure that humidity inside is kept between forty-five and sixty-five percent.

You will also need to remove your old flooring and be sure to dispose of it properly. This task could be a very timely one. So you will want to be sure that you allot plenty of time to get this done before it is time for the new floor installers to be there or before the date that you set to install your flooring. You will also want to allow enough time to clean up after you have uninstalled your old flooring so be sure that you account for this time as well.

You may also need to remove your current trim. This includes both moldings and your baseboards. The installer may do this if you are having them install your flooring for you. However you should know that this too could be an additional cost passed down to you. You may also need to retouch your baseboards or moldings after the floor installation is finished.

You may either need a new subfloor or to possibly repair your old subfloor to put down the hardwood flooring.  You will need to have someone to look at your floorings and make this decision before you install the hardwood. You will also want to be sure that you clean the subfloor before installation and make sure that the subflooring is a level as it can possibly be.

Another thing that you will need to make sure of is if your doors are going to be able to close once the flooring has been installed. It might be that once you have installed your flooring you find that there is simply not enough clearance for the door.  So you will need to make sure that you make arrangements to have the door fixed to meet the new floor or the floor adjusted for the door. This will save problems after the floor has been installed.

Once the floor has been installed you will need to do some clean up. If you have professionals do the installation for you then you may find that they will do the clean up if not you will want to be sure that you have a place to dispose of any leftover materials from laying hardwood flooring.
